This video installation is originally intended for 2 screens back to back, with the intention that when you see her lips, you will most likely hear “fever” or “viva”, but when you walk around to the other screen you will be presented with just a close up of her genitalia, and hear clearly the soundtrack, in which she is in fact always saying “beaver”. This phenomena was first disclosed in 1976 in a paper by Harry McGurk, and hence is called the “McGurk effect“.
The video work is also questioning attitudes in modern society of the appearance of the vagina, and of the unnerving trend amongst the youth to go under the knife to achieve the so called “perfect vagina”
