Syngmer Karaoke bar in Oslo called me and asked if I’d like to do some “counterfeiting” which sounded a bit dodgy, but nevertheless I agreed. The concept was simple, a copy of Gustav Vigeland’s famous baby sculpture Sinnataggen, a cultural symbol in Norway known by all, but this baby needed to be bright pink and singing.
The process of knocking off this famous work began with a trip to Vigeland Park in Oslo to observe the little brat. Photos were taken to model in clay and then make a mold to cast a plaster of paris version. The process was fun if a little time consuming.
The work also spawned a shadow side to the public displayed pink monstrosity. Syngatagen has hidden side that revealed itself during the process. I want to display this in a different setting than that of the commissioned cast on public display at Syngmer.
